|  | Roumi off to Brazil to participate in South-South DialogueFeb 28, 2010 - 06:51 - WAM Dubai, Feb 28th, 2010 (WAM) -- Minister of Social Affairs HE Mariam Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi will participate in the second joint meeting of the Ministers of Development and Social Affairs of the Arab and the South American countries due to open in Brazil tomorrow. The two-day meeting will discuss a number of important issues, which aims to strengthen the relations between the Arab states and the Latin American countries in the areas of social welfare and development. Among the topics on the agenda are methodologies for social integration, policies to reduce poverty, the empowerment of vulnerable groups and the exchange of experience and expertise for achieving the Millennium Goals. The meeting will also discuss what has been achieved in implementing the articles of the International Convention on persons with disabilities. Al Roumi said that the importance of this meeting stems from the fact that nearly fifty countries who share a common goal to accomplish development and achieve broad and adequate standard of living for its citizens, are gathering together. She noted that all these countries belong to the South and thus the dialogue at the meeting will be held between the South and the South to achieve important goals at a time when attention has always been focused on the dialogue between North and South.
