UAE Ambassador holds reception for Australia-UAE Parliamentary Friendship Group

WAM Canberra, Nov. 24th, 2009 (WAM) -- HE Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Australia, yesterday held a luncheon in honor of the president and members of the Australia-UAE Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The luncheon was attended by Senator Stephen Hutchins, head of the Group, the group's members, Heads of Arab Diplomatic Missions, officials from the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Arab and Australian Chambers of Commerce, businessmen, media and Director General of Etihad Airways in Australia.

Dr. Al Shamsi, in his speech reiterated the effective role of the UAE regionally and internationally through supporting efforts of the international community to maintain global safety and security, praising wise policies pursued by UAE's leadership.

He also praised the excellent relationships between the UAE and Australia in various fields citing the effective and important role played by the two national carriers, Emirates Airways and Etihad Airways to strengthen relations between both countries.

Al Shamsi briefed them about the history of UAE, its political system and how it managed, thanks to its wise leadership, to reach advanced stages in various aspects of economic, social and cultural life, besides being a modern country that is keen to establish friendly relations and cooperation with countries of the world, in addition to being a peace-loving country, which is illustrated by the recent success in its efforts to host the permanent headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

He said that today UAE women, hold leadership positions in both public and private sectors due to the opportunities provide by the country.

Al Shamsi called on members of the group to visit the UAE to look into the development process and meet with officials and members of the Federal National Council.

He stressed the importance of such joint meetings to strengthen and develop bilateral relations with Australia.
